Taxpayers are restricted from registering for SARS eFiling if they already have the maximum number (as determined by SARS) of eFiling profiles linked to their security contact details (such as mobile number or email address).
If the taxpayer's mobile number or email address does not match the details on SARS' system, or if these details have been linked to the maximum number of profiles, the taxpayer will be automatically directed to a SARS branch via eFiling. Their eFiling profile will also be locked.
The taxpayer will have to submit supporting documents at the SARS branch for verification.
If the number of eFiling registration attempts have been exceeded, the taxpayer must visit a SARS branch.
The new rules help mitigate risks associated with numerous profiles allocated to one person by capping the number of eFiling profiles that can be associated with an individual's security contact information, rather than allowing an unlimited number of profiles to be linked to one person.
These rules for individual taxpayers "do not affect tax practitioners who have multiple profiles linked to their security contact details."
